A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER.

I started Kico because I wanted to create something people could take home from Turks & Caicos that felt more meaningful than a souvenir.

My first designs were sterling silver pieces dedicated quite literally to these islands.

But somewhere along the way, my relationship with jewellery changed.

I became fascinated by stones. Not necessarily the perfect ones. The interesting ones.

Tiny sapphires with subtle shifts in colour. Turquoise marked by nature. Pearls with irregular silhouettes. Stones that made me want to look closer.

The way I thought about design completely shifted.

Today, Kico comes together in a few different ways. Some pieces I sit down and make with my own hands. Others begin with a design I develop and work with artisans around the world to bring to life. And some are pieces I discover while sourcing — jewellery whose stones, craftsmanship or character immediately feel at home in the Kico world.

However a piece begins, I'm drawn to the same things: beautiful materials, unexpected colour, organic character and jewellery that makes me want to look a little closer.

And I've stopped asking natural materials to be perfectly uniform.

I don't think that's where their beauty lives.

Perhaps that's also why I don't believe jewellery should spend its life sitting perfectly in a box.

Wear it.

Travel in it.

Layer it differently tomorrow.

Let it remind you of somewhere you never quite left behind.

Let it become associated with someone.

Let it acquire a story that I could never have designed for it.

Because ultimately, I only begin the piece. You make it yours.
